Lara doesn't mean it to be cruel, it's just a deep-seated fear of hers. Back home her ex dumped her *and* kicked her out because she wasn't ready to wed yet - so she has issues of her own with commitment. But basically, right now she's afraid of getting her heard broken if she thinks she sees it coming.
