I think it's just that having "Arcanus Greymalkin" as middle names is embarrassingly antiquated, melodramatic and baroque, especially in addition to already being Vincent De Soth. The Elder De Soth's apparently liked to shovel it on pretty thick.

(I'd laugh at him, but the names in my family aren't noticeably less weird... just significantly shorter.)

Still, you're right... I suppose if Liu Xi isn't familiar with western names, she'd not really know if his was especially elaborate or weird. Just don't let her page through a phone book looking for other Arcanuses.
