Reply Subj: I like how the last few lines encourage a re-read with a new mental image.

A fun chapter with some nice grabs from continuity to pull things together. Now we know who's stalking poor Liu Xi (or at least another name to add to the list.) It will be interesting to see what trouble this brings to the team as a whole.

I expect it'll end up in wacky hi-jinks with the gang as usual.

Just to be clear, is Liu Xi the only one on the new line-up, or is Vinnie included as well? My impression from the story is both, but the talkback gets confusing depending on when people replied. (3 members revealed to this point, assuming Vinnie and Liu Xi accept the invitation.)

Mumphrey and Vinnie will be associate members like Al B. Liu Xi will be on the field team. She may wear a different costume to the one from this chapter.

Nice trick by Vinnie to get himself banished to the void, by the way... the man is picking up on Xander's trick of getting others to do the heavy lifting.

It was the quickest way to get there without using major magics, and it took care of some side business too.

This chapter does illustrate the trouble with characters like Liu Xi being on the team, however. Give her the Shoggoth's perceptions of time and space, and she's essentially Dr. Manhattan. She pretty much has to run into omnipotent baddies at this point, because she can transmutate any weapon into something harmless (or vaporize it), or disperse adversaries who don't have significant control over the molecules of their own bodies.

I don't see Liu Xi having that much control over that range or magnitude of matter under regular circumstances.

I know Jason likes to keep it undefined but in my mind elemental manipulations have some kind of physical cost and there's a limit to how much a human can pay without rest and recouperation. However, when there's a massive raw source of element there, like a raging fire, there's rather more to draw upon. And in the best heroic traditions, at dire need Liu Xi can draw on deep reserves when her heart and soul go into it.

Maybe it was the walking around naked that had me make the connection...

I'm glad you were stimulated. Mentally, that is.

    In any event, fun stuff!

You know the bit that comes next.
