Sometimes it's not so easy to "fill in". For one thing Jay's encylopedic knowledge of PV baddies isn't easy to replicate. But most importantly, if another hero is willing to go out there and save lives in Hatty's place then presumably they're also available to go out there and save lives as well as Hatty - doubling the chances of helping.

    Quote:
That's really only relevant if the person in question is *pretending* to be Hatman. Since Lara Night can't really be mistaken for Hatman even if she *wears* a hat, it's highly unlikely anyone would expect her to work the same way.

No, but if two heroes are patrolling that's doubled the chances that they'll find a crime, prevent a disaster, save a life.

However, she's well aware of the way the Lair Legion functions - she has worked with them before - so she's very unlikely to go on a vigilante villain killing spree because Hatman is busy the for evening. Her power gives her an advantage here; because anyone intending to push Hatman to kill them, or even an innocent 3rd party, would be facing someone who's very creative with a very different set of abilities.

    Quote:
In other words, if Lara does kill someone while Hatty's on a date, it would be an unavoidable accident that any Legionnaire would have had as well. I'm sure he'd still have trouble forgiving her for it, and she'd have trouble forgiving herself - but all in all, the cause will *not* have had anything to do with Hat taking the night off.

I'm not sure where the heroes accidentally killing stuff comes in. I was suggesting that Hatman might feel guilty if someone dies that he might have saved if he wasn't off enjoying downtime.

Think of the dilemma a Red Cross doctor might feel in a plague-stricken war zone. He needs to sleep, to eat, to get some downtime, but there's hundreds of people needing his attention, some of whom will die if they don't get it. In that crisis, every minute stolen from work may cost lives. It's a terrible trade-off to decide where to stop saving lives and take even a bathroom break.

    Quote:
P.S. Hat losing his temper and blaming Lara or anyone else for a death would probably result in Yuki Shiro cornering Hatty and letting loose with lots of volume.

I don't think Jay would be that unprofessional. He'd only chew someone out if they'd been negligent.
