Subj: There are so many crude responses that I'm not going to make.

Reply Subj: Who doesn't? "Man's best friend" and all that.

Some people are just born unlucky.

Others have unluckiness thrust upon them.

There's movie evidence of it.

We'll be sending the newbie portion of the new line-up on a quiet camping trip soon. Then the more established members can just kick back and relax.

      Quote:
S'mores and weenie roasts do offer a great deal of bonding potential. And they should totally do that retreat exercise where you fall backwards in order to gain trust in your team.

I'll be sure to keep that in mind.

Are there actually going to be any established members left by the time the new line-up roles around?

    We need them?

I'd have to go back and read something I previously wrote to be sure, but as I recall there was some kind of legal wrangle that saw Vespiir "claimed". Since nobody challenged that claim within seven days she's legally the property of her claimnant.

      Quote:
If you do find the passage, let me know what it says.

Vespiir looked at the lady with disbelieving eyes.

“Outcasts can be taken by any,” Miiri quoted. “Well then, consider yourself claimed. From now on you belong to the father of my children, and I name you Vespiir of the House of Visionary. And if you think any citizen of Caph will dare to raise his hand against you now then you do not know your new Master.”

“Um, did you consult Visionary about this?” Mircandalee asked tentatively.

“He’ll know when the time is right,” Miiri answered. “Probably when his mouth is full of coffee.”

“I am claimed?” Vespiir couldn’t believe it. “Lady Miiri, I am an abomination. I see the future.”

The former pleasure slave snorted. “On Earth that’s called having a super-power. There’s a special training school for young people to learn to use their gifts wisely and well. Lord Visionary runs it. His young charges grow strong and true. This very day they have saved all of Caph.” She leaned close to Vespiir. “I think you’ll do well as a Junior.”

Meanwhile, Kriije is of the House of Raael and Koodi is now of the House of Kiivan himself! At some point somebody may have to point out to Koodi that in Caphan terms that makes her more valuable than any chattel of her former master.

      Quote:
Surely there would still be some kind of hierarchy based on skill set though... Just because someone is scullery maid to the king shouldn't really make them more valuable than a well-trained, highly skilled subject of a lesser lord. Not that this is what Koodi is, mind you... or that her former master even had well-trained, highly skilled house members.

I seem to recall Koodi being impressed that the best pleasure slaves her master possessed were valued at over 20,000 shekli. Rare and special top-ranking pleasure slaves such as the nine exiles were valued up to or beyond a million shekli. An imperial chattel has a value by association to the Emir, so Koodi's book value has probably risen from say 500 shekli to 25,000 shekli; if she was on the market she'd be bought for the snob value of owning a drudge from the Emir's house.

      Quote:
Well, like I said above, seeing as how the deal really did extend to undoing the good she did to save the universe, I don't think it's reasonable for anyone to hold her actions here against her. Even if her main motivation was to avoid the madness, the fact that in doing so she preserved the safety of the parodyverse is too big of a mitigating factor. She really had no other option but to go along with it and do what the Hood asked.

She could have warned CSFB! about the Hood's involvement. She didn't.

At the moment Vespiir's not very trained in her powers. I don't really want to write the stuff in-story for out-of-story reasons but you're free to imagine that Vizh will be introducing Vespiir to Tina Cabanez.

      Quote:
I understand. Do you know how long I've been hoping for someone to come along and establish a new telepath in the Parodyverse? Having a character that can comment on unspoken thoughts is just too much fun. However, I do agree that it is a great niche for a posting character, and so it would have been a shame to fill it with an npc.

    Indeed.

      Quote:
Of course, considering the age of the board, it might be unrealistic to think there's much possibility of a new poster adopting such a character now.

    I live in hope.

      Quote:
And there's one of those illustration ideas that cheers me right up...

      Quote:
And there's Kirk with cash money.

    Quote:
I may technically owe him a nude Aunt May drawing for some reason... I can't quite recall any longer. I hold out hope that he can't as well.

Relax. You promised him a story and a picture, the story if he responded in a couple of weeks and the picture of her did something by the weekend. He made the story deadline and got something about April in a sauna. He blew the weekend deadline. The world is safe.
