It's not the technique I'm referring to, but the human perception of it. It's like you look at a solid wall, but not only is the wall not solid, but it has infinite space within it. Not only does that pretty much cause your brain's sense of perception to break, but it's impossible to resolve logically. So either Liu Xi has become accustomed to having her perception broken, or she found a way to resolve it or accept it somehow.

    Quote:
That would seem to be as good an explanation as any.

You know what they say, there's a fine line between genius and insanity. Liu Xi might be incredibly smart to be able to resolve that, or she might be insane so it doesn't bother her, or maybe a little of both.

    Quote:
She'll need to beware. As I say, those elements are effectively diseased. If she's infected she'll be consumed and something else will be looking out from behind her eyes.

Fortunately, unlike Lara who absorbs energy, Liu Xi doesn't absorb them at all (except through normal eating and drinking like most people). She just feels their call and manipulates them, and doesn't really know how it works or care. It's more tied to her emotional response than and kind of logic.

That's nearly perfect for handling diseased, foreign elements, because while they will "feel" different to her, and have unexpected results (i.e. if she wants to burn something with fire, she might change its color instead) it still feels similar.

The good news is because she doesn't absorb any of it, she can't take it home with her and pollute her own world with it.

Another interesting question is if Liu Xi spends too much time in the Shoggoth's universe, if she has problems adapting to the human one again.

    Quote:
    Indeed.

Most notably this might cause problems with her recognizing right and wrong, and the sanctity of life, much like the Shoggoth does. In the Shoggoth's world, all that stuff is all the same anyhow. Like a child, she might believe if she kills something, it's not really dead.

    Quote:
I wonder if actually Liu Xi dies the reverse of this. Perhaps she's able to clothe herself in a tiny pocket of normal elements and physics like a space suit in the same way as the Shoggoth does with his physics to survive in the mortal world.

She doesn't need to really, since she *is* a pocket of normal elements and physics. Perhaps she's just better and holding those together because she can sense the elements within her being pulled apart and is able to hold them in place.

      Quote:
Of course she still might be considered slightly insane, from the average humans' point of view, simply because she understands elements at all.

    Quote:
She's not writing equations in her own blood on the wall of an asylum.

No, she would be the one reconfiguring the walls like an elaborate puzzle instead.

    Quote:

      Quote:
Lara Night is most sensitive to sources of energy and forces of the universe. The interesting part here might be if the Shoggoth gives off some kind of very foreign energy. Lara might go in, and then come out changed - maybe not mentally, but her energy-based powers might go haywire, or they might behave unpredictably, or she could simply have radically new or different powers for a while. Nobody would know for sure. She absorbs all energy around her, so the risk is high and unpredictable.

    Quote:
It probably wouldn't be good. the worst case scenario would be Shema quarantining her from her home to prevent the spread of infection there.

The good news is nature is good at fixing that to an extent. Travelling between universes uses up a huge amount of energy, which would purge most of the foreign energy quickly (but then it would be on the loose in the Parodyverse).

So the biggest problem for Lara would be how to avoid absorbing enough foreign Shoggoth energy that she can single-handedly corrupt part of the Parodyverse. It's like being radioactive and figuring out how to decontaminate so you don't kill everyone around you.
