It doesn't need speeed. It needs to be able to creep up on its target.

That doesn't help much if something is chasing it.

Squids hide. They send out big clouds of ink. Then they sting.

From a practical point of view, no underwater craft is ever going to go faser than an aircraft; but subs can still bring down planes.

True, but on that Whale Wars show the biggest failure with the Sea Shepherds organization is they keep buying boats with substandard engines that can never catch the Japanese whalers. That's the #1 consideration they should be making and they miss it.

BALD are a scientific research villain outfit. They don't go for direct military conflicts - that'd be HERPES - so their methods and equipment are different. At least that's what I was reasoning when I wrote this story.

The Squid Ship shouldn't have been easy to find either, but Mumph and Yuki hit the other BALD base and got the data neccessary to locate an otherwise untraceable major asset.

To rule the seas, not the air, HERPES craft should at least be faster than anything out there. In an octopus, the U.S. or British Navy can simply chase them around the Atlantic until they run out of food and fuel.

Sub-hunting is always dangerous though. Weird-science based underwater craft must be even harder to catch.

At the moment there's not an emergency though, so he's got leeway to experiment. Things will change with the end of the current chapter.

    There's sure an emergency now...

That little thing?
