That's an intriguing argument. I could see a conversation that goes something like:

"So if you could have saved millions, perhaps billions, of lives by wedding the Doomhearald would you have done so?"

"Exu? I don't... Is that who you want me to marry? To stop him being a monster?"

"I didn't say that, grand-daughter. I merely posed the question. Is your personal liberty and happiness more important to you than taking a role which would prevent disaster from overwhelming the entire Parodyverse?"

And so on.

It's pretty much an open canvas. Maybe there are rituals of challenge for leadership - feats and tests and things.
