> > She needed to become her own person at some point. This happening to her is going to force her to finally assert herself to avoid slipping back into what she was, what she hated.

> The question that follows that though is what is Liu Xi's "rest point"? Who and what is she once she's traversed her arc?

At the moment she admires the Psychic Samurai's balance of patience and power, and Lara's ability to make friends. That leads me to believe Liu Xi will make an effort to become more patient and friendly. Meanwhile she's learning how to use her power more efficiently, so she'll become more powerful. But she's also learning the consequences to showing off that power, so she may try to keep it to a minimum.

> I'm sure her "grandfather" is too experienced a manipulator to let her perceive things that way.

He probably knows he has to be careful when dealing with someone who's smart and reacts violently to being a prisoner.

> > Probably, but she already made it clear that she's only behind him as long as he cooperates with her. If he stops cooperating Liu Xi will do everything she can to be a complete pain.

> At the moment they seem to be having a time of peace and calm punctuated by dangerous and difficult missions.

It looks peaceful all right, but Liu Xi is anything but at peace. She's worried and afraid.
