He's actually made that other classic villain mistake of Underestimating His Opposition. More on that next issue as it's clobberin' time.

I suspect this is a different kind of rage, not as a reaction to one event but a growing realisation of an abiding wrong.

It's not something I'll address. I'd say that Danny still has feelings for Kerry, but may feel that getting back to her is not feasible. However, he's willing to go to extreme lengths to achieve his goals, so he at least would be willing to roleplay a romantic or physical relationship with Liu Xi to put one over on the Void Scholar.

In his own way Danny is as ruthless and more worldly than the Doomherald.

Psychological attack can be very effective.

Well, the measures were set in place by the Chronicler and Lisa. As to whether the obvious reason was the only reason, who can say?
