...all the best villains started their lives with no more good or evil than anyone else, and ended up facing at least One Bad Day, if not many more than that. Very few good villains were evil from the get go, and unless Doorman's lying about everything in his speech, it does make you wonder if he could have been a hero like Hatman if things had turned out differently.

That doesn't excuse his actions, but it makes him more interesting.
