Never really thought about it but how I've personally defined Ham-Boy's powers I'm not sure he could "make" Meatloaf with his powers. Not even sure he could make the meat to put into a Meatloaf with his powers. The meat in the meatloaf is not processed enough to be available to Ham-Boy. Not even sure about Ham-Boy's cooking ability.

    Quote:
Even as I wrote the "meatloaf" line, I thought to myself, "Ham-Boy can only do natural meats, so he can't do meatloaf, which is mixed with filler". Then I thought "But meatloaf sounds funnier than any other word I could use here." Then I thought, "And FA doesn't really pay attention to how HB's powers work, and she's speaking, so that's okay."

Then I thought, "L! is definitely going to comment on this anyway. Should I put in a footnote to clarify HB's powers or is that too much like explaining the joke (in this case more like detailing a minor nuance of character perspective)? Best leave it un-noted because it's a while since I had anything to chat with L! about."

It's not really "natural meats", Ham-Boy can't make pork chops appears out of nowhere. The meat that Ham-Boy has access to via his powers has be processed in some form. A Ham is a "natural meat" but it's been prepared in a certain manner. The meat that it commonly used is in Meatloaf is in a grey area: he could maybe be able to make it appear since it's processed in some form but then he might not be able to make it appear since it might be to natural of a meat.

But I liked the joke since it's goes with what people might assume his powers can do. There is an old joke of "Make a cow appear !" "I can't do that, I don't do live meat!"

No, really, all this went through me head in the 2 seconds before I tyrped the next sentence.

    So, to clarify:
    1. HB can't do meatloaf.
    2. FA doesn't know that.

and that's fine, I doubt many people know exactly what he can do. I doubt Ham-Boy even really know what he can do. There are many mysteries to the powers of Ham-Boy. The 2 big ones are:
1. Where is all the meat coming from?
2. What are his origins?

I have vague ideas of where the meat be coming from (pocket/other dimension filled meat & Ham-Boy is a conduit between them). Why he has these powers? I don't know. There is some idea that his powers are tied to Alan Harris, Air Force Pilot & HB's Father. Alan has never been in a story as he is currently assumed dead/missing.

But as I said tangential comments on a throw away line. I do look forward to what else you post.

I'm just about to get back to Part 3 next. The current storyline deliberately doesn't feature any poster characters. #356 definitely does.

Not sure if I'll get something out this december. It would be appropriate since I'm trying to get the cast of Chad & Ronnie to a Chrismahannaqwanza celebration. Maybe next year \:\)

There's a difficult balance between "writing when inspirations strikes" and "writing as a discipline" isn't there? I struggle with it all the time. In fact I sometimes manage to overcome my reluctance with a mental bargain like, "Hey, Watson, if you write project X today you don't have to write project Y today. Deal?" It works more than you'd expect.

I did more thinking about my ongoing Chad & Ronnie recently. In doing that I managed to come up a whole new possible epilogue to the story.

Yes, when I'm being tough on myself I revert to the surname-based dialogue of my schoolmasters.

I thought that was just a British thing to refer to people by their surnames?
