Anna's original purpose was to covertly subdue the Lair Legion. An army could do the job just as well, but the number of civilian/military casualties would be high, and it would decidedly be *public*. Originally the idea was to send an autonomous android in that can act on orders and make decisions as well as a soldier can, only be much more resistant to damage, and much faster and more heavily armed. By subdue, I mean take prisoners if she can, kill only if necessary.

In other words, just the kind of job General Buttkiss needs done. Only since Anna developed a conscience and escaped, she's useless for it. That may also be why the General believes Dan Drury is a failure.





Lara is very cautious with membership for a couple of reasons: a) she did the team thing once before in her life, and couldn't deal with the politics of it; and b) she knows that she can very well become the symbol a government or protest group needs to prove how dangerous the Lair Legion is, if she joins. She might be willing to become an associate, though, or anything so that the LL doesn't have to take the blame for her actions.





I can see where Yuki has moments debating whether or not she should just resign and walk away. But I think she also feels like the team depends on her to get them through this, and if she leaves everything falls apart.
