My original thinking was to do a chapter on Santa's workshop, and a chapter in the Mythlands before getting to the North Star. However, it became clear that it was never going to be written if that remained the plan, so I just lifted the parts I liked from those chapters and crammed them into one. I should do that kind of thing more often.



I have answers to both of these... We'll have to see if they're particularly good answers, as I didn't have them when the story was started.
