I keep coming back to Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi, because it's not so much about new powers (although I do anticipate his Android Arm bringing with it some additional applications) as much as it's about an overt symbol of his ongoing evolution - in this case, into something more than strictly human (or even superhuman).

Dream was already dancing on the tightrope over the chasm between being human and being pure Chaos, so becoming a cyborg (which makes him both organic and robotic, without being fully either) is yet another method of illustrating his almost irreconcilable duality (in much the same way as the mixed-race heritage he was born with).
