I'll get this confession in before my daughter tells one of her favourite stories.

This must have been about ten or eleven years back, when I was running a conference at some health facility in a pretty rural mansion. I got there early to check the IT was working, including one of those then-quite-new video projects that hook into a PC to show Powerpoints. Whatever I did, whatever the venue organisers did, whatever the site people did, we could not get the damn thing to work, even when we changed the £100 light bulb.

I'd brought my 12 year old daughter along with me that day for work experience and to help out handing out and collecting course materials. She was the one who found that the projector had an on switch at the back. She has never let me forget this. Ever.

It will form part of my epitaph if she has anything to do with it.
