Being able to say "Screw it... here's where they all are 7 years ahead" has a certain appeal. Hell, people could even do the whole "massive changes to be explained later" style reboot if they wanted to.My concern is that it is very unlikely that there will again be an ongoing posting community regularly producing PVB stories. It's therefore a toss-up between offering now-occasional contributors a new platform that doesn't force posters to remember where they were a decade ago and maintaining a comfortable background they are mostly familiar with and can draw on without much worry.
