I don't know if Whedon has done any action films (Buffy isn't really an action flick even though there is fighting), but I think he has a good grasp on the superhero genre. We could certainly do a lot worse; we could have got Michael Bay.
EDIT: I forgot about Serenity...I guess that would qualify as an action flick.

I finally saw the new Star Trek film the other day, and I don't know if there is a better potential Hawkeye than Chris Pine (Kirk).
