I think when people look back on it they'll see it was really pretty predictable. The heroes won, the people who'd been set up to die died, characters were ruthlessly pushed into their new slots; apart from the heroes winning it was a Bendis story.

    Quote:
Nonsense. In a Bendis story the deaths would have been meaningless, coming from nowhere for shock value, and not through a heroic stand that saves the day. Plus the interactions would have ignored previously established character traits and continuity, and the whole thing would have really sputtered out into a disappointing climax. There would still be some good quips in there though.

Also Bendis would have got $30,000 more per issue than I did.

    Quote:
Really, I think you nailed it a while back when you said that Bendis is a writer of crime fiction, and not heroic fiction. I do tend to like his crime stories, but he misses all of the beats in the big hero stuff. Sad to see he's Marvel's choice to start their "Heroic Age".

So far it's been a lot of "tell not show" about how great the heroes who're returning are. There's a great drinking game to be had for how many issues in the last three months end on dramatic shots of the returning Captain America looking grave and resolute. Although I did enjoy the last page of Siege #2 which shows a sequence of similar close shots of Iron Patriot's (Norman Osborne) mask with the reflection of a red white and blue shield flying ever nearer towards it.

But as to the Parodyverse, I think you're just jaded. That was a fun, major throwdown... Not the most unique story you've done, certainly, but I'll read another 10 like it in a heartbeat if you care to write 'em.

It was neccessary to do to clear the way for more interesting stuff to follow (I hope).
