Here you go, courtesy of the "Spore Creature Creator". Go right this moment and download the free version from www.spore.com It's insanely satisfying to play around with. Basically, it allows you to create most any creature out of an easily shaped body and attachable limbs and features.
Eventually, the full game will come out (from the creator of the Sims and such) which will allow you to play God with your critters, but everyone knows creating them is the fun part. You can also pay $10 for the full Creature Creator, which would just give you more body parts to add on (my odd critters down there use the full version of the program, but you can do a heck of a lot with the free version.)
Seriously... give it a try. Provided you've got some time to kill...

Spore Creature Creator also has a direct "save to YouTube" video function, that records your critter in action (you can command it to run around and perform various dances and emotional reactions) and puts it directly on YouTube. So if you want to see what people make, there are probably thousands of different critters up there already. (The program just launched this week.)
