I was going to use the Emilio/Champagne meeting as Emilio's storyline in this chapter, but the opportunity of an offbeat Gamona/Emilio encounter was too good to let pass.

For all she knows, Hatman could shake down Vendredi again, or Akiko could do something, or possibly even Frankie, and next thing she knows, she's taken out in a drive-by shooting to send someone else a message. The "insurance" makes that an undesirable choice - not because Vendredi would be afraid, just because it's a lot of work having to deal with a tenacious alien assassin afterward. She doesn't plan on taking on Vendredi at all, really.
