...I hope it wasn't from certain sections of Craigs List.

Impoverished births aren't nearly so charming with modern, non-romanticized settings, are they? No wonder the kid would turn out so resentful. Still, help is on the way, albeit a rather unorthodox crew.

Lots of fun bits in this one. I especially liked the Mac vs. the demon scene, as well as the Mumphrey era flashbacks. Interesting characters that visit him... I take it they're part of a long line of CSFB types? Should be fun seeing him work with Grace, who is always a favorite.

Looking forward to the group saving this young Maggie and her child. Don't go naming her that and then cheating me of a happy ending...

... Is basically the '70s blaxploitation and horror film CrazySugarHistoricHero! As the name indicates, he recharges his powers by consuming coffee and caffeine rather than sugar and candy. It wasn't even intentional, but as I mapped out that whole line of characters, I realized that the ones near the late ends of cycles wind up going for caffeine rather than sugar (the CacklingCappuccinoSupernaturalSleuth! during the 1920s, who was basically the Shadow, and the InsaneCaffeineRevengeSoldier! during the '80s, who was basically the Comedian from Watchmen), and seem to be darker characters as a result.
