Quote: There's a number of issues that we'll need to flesh out in the issues to come, and Liu Xi's history, heritage, and self-confidence are some of them.At the very least, for the first time in her life her heritage and history isn't something for her to be afraid of anymore. Just the self-confidence. Quote: It's the kind of info we really might need to use for dramatic effect someday. If an adversary can name her then he's a serious threat. You can be sure the Hooded Hood knows, for example. It's really kind of useless information though. Yuki abandoned her previous life because she used to always play it safe. When she was almost killed, she realized she was wasting her life and wanted something more - and her new body gave her just the opportunity to do it. So really, all reminding her of her old identity will do is make her angry. That's why Vicky Cameron, while she found out Yuki's identity, really didn't do much with it - Yuki used to be so boring, she broke no laws. The only interest Vicky had was to make sure the person who nearly killed her was prosecuted. Quote: Vinnie might say that a girl of her abilities and sensitivity dabbling with the occult is like putting a ballerina in a rugby match - her special nature makes her both adept but very vulnerable to the forces involved.Liu Xi is kind of afraid of using powerful non-elemental magic because it doesn't feel right to her. Mostly she uses it when she's really in trouble. Otherwise, she might use some for decorative purposes or for fun if the spell seems benign enough, but that's just to keep herself in practice. Ironically, "fun" magic kind of fits her personality better than the deadly kind anyhow. Quote: She needs to talk about those views sometime.Chiaki has said a little about it here and there. The problem here is really that she doesn't understand it all that completely herself. For instance she doesn't even know if her sense is internal or from an outside source. Quote: Again, worth featuring in-story.From time to time when Chiaki really pushes herself in a fight you can see her using the psychic sense, but very little as not to become dependent on it. Other times, you see her entirely guided by it (like during the Moderator saga, to avoid being caught). Quote: Liu Xi also has longer-range powers is is more effective outside combat distance. It's all relative, really. Liu Xi *can* affect elements over a long distance, but she hasn't developed the imagination necessary to do so. She does *have* imagination, but there's a stark difference between daydreaming and trying to imagine where a glacier is somewhere in the Arctic to control its behavior. The simplest way she may learn that someday is if she has to stop an approaching threat from far away, and television and satellite may aid her well. She's a high-tech elementalist. Lara Night might also be able to help her. She has learned how to turn being highly tuned to large changes or shifts in energy in an entire universe into imagination, so she can take some very educated guesses about what's happening, and sometimes where. Except that, while Lara can get there pretty quickly, she actually does have to go there to affect any change (one thing that clearly separates the scope of her abilities from, say, Faite). She's the missing piece of the puzzle that Liu Xi hasn't developed yet. Quote: There are a number of characters who I'd put down as having "default American speech" - G-Eyed, Vinnie, Vizh and CZ in the current line-up, for example. The challenge is ensuring their lines can be as distinguished as the trademark patois of Donar or Yo or Mumphrey.Lara's speech pattern is, I guess, somewhat modern. She'll use colloquialisms - because she's a media star back home, she stays on the cutting edge of speech trends at least casually. Basically, her speech is a much milder version of Vicky Cameron's, but she avoids using so much foul language (part of remembering she might always be recorded) and more fun and less angry. She has a lot of emotion to her speech among friends, so her tone varies widely depending on the general mood. If she needs to speak in front of people she'll take on a more formal tone, and then she's very good at putting a sentence together. Lara is part actress, and can deliver lines convincingly in front of an audience any time she needs to. | |||||||
