When things were too easy, she felt detached from the world - and that upset her, because she was starting to develop friendships, but those friends felt distant from her. She's doing this to develop closer bonds.

Ironically, Faite may be making things so hard for herself the Hooded Hood might be more amused watching her torture herself instead of messing with things for her. Or perhaps he's making things easier for her so he can tell her one day and watch her become angry about it.
