True, to a lot of people curling and drinking go together, but the top level curlers train all the time to get that good. Kevin Martin, who will be representing Canada at the Olympics, works out at the same facility as the Edmonton Oilers (of the NHL). In terms of overall fitness, Kevin Martin, a curler in his early 40's, was more fit than any of the hockey players. The game is definitely harder than it looks; I'm a certified instructor, and when I teach new curlers how to curl, I spend at least a couple of hours just on how to properly slide out of the hack to deliver a stone.
