Most media quotes fly whoosh over my head.
> And as you can see, the spoilers box is checked for soon to be known reasons (otherwise known as this is your last warning for spoilers).

Noted.
> I'm not entirely sure I understand the Void Scholar's methods, it seems a bit like killing a fly with a cannon to me. The one thing I do understand is it looks like he's up to the point now where he won't need Liu Xi any more. So now I guess the question is whether he lets her go now that he doesn't need her, or whether he tries to tie up loose ends by trying to kill her.

He needs Liu Xi either (1) carry out a void-related task he has bred her line for many generations to accomplish or (2) birth a child with Danny that will grow up to accomplish the task.
> And when Liu Xi does return, Vinnie might wish she hadn't. It's going to be quite different for her at least - she'd return home expecting to be welcomed, and instead she would be hurt over this disaster. Of course by then she'd also realize the Void Scholar is bent on death and destruction, and she'd do her best to perform nothing of the sort, even if she's angry, so she doesn't fall into the trap and contribute to it.

I received your tie-in narrative. Of course, there are also mitigating circumstances to be taken into account. Vinnie and Kerry are victims.
> Now the spoiler-y part: It doesn't look like the Void Scholar's plan will work completely. The big glitch seems to be the Portal of Pretentiousness. Without Kerry to root him in reality, he'd likely become obsessed with it, ignoring even the person the Void Scholar set up for him.

There are some flaws in his plans which are not clear to him.
