> It's a fairly long arc we're doing with Liu Xi this time, but I hope all of this forms part of the pay-off.

She needed to become her own person at some point. This happening to her is going to force her to finally assert herself to avoid slipping back into what she was, what she hated.
> > > That's not really a winning strategy, given the infinite nature of the place. It's like dipping a teacup into an ocean to try and find a lost pebble - except that you might attract a shark.

Depends on perception. If Liu Xi feels like the premise is "You'll stay here as long as I wish or your friends will die" she's going to feel like a prisoner and rebel violently. She did warn her grandfather she would do just that, so it should be no surprise to him.
> > Besides, it's not all that futile and stupid. After getting a couple of broken cities dumped in his back yard, maybe her grandfather will decided to cooperate.

> I think it would merely tip him to the fact that Liu Xi isn't 100% behind his programme.

Probably, but she already made it clear that she's only behind him as long as he cooperates with her. If he stops cooperating Liu Xi will do everything she can to be a complete pain.

> Possibly.
