Generally in the real world the penalty for releasing prisoners from jail without authorization is fairly minor compared to the "what if's" of what could happen as a result. I assumed that the Safe would be different though - it would be the equivelent of Federal penalties for espionage and terrorism *combined*, because it creates that much of a public scare.

In other words the punishment is excessive to quell public fears and outrage over the Safe. It's like the government telling people, "Don't worry, we're going to put this unlikely an person in the gas chamber and it'll never happen again."

So yes, just causing the escape will probably make her eligible for death. It also, however, would make it difficult to impossible to get a fair trial - and in this case, the government may dispense with that part by using charges that basically railroad her into the death penalty.

The part I wonder is if the Lair Legion will turn a blind eye to that kind of thing or not. I don't know if they'll realize this is a turning point in Chiaki's life. If she's forced underground, she could become more dangerous than Akiko to preserve her way of life and survive (think Karai or Shredder from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). If her friends turn their backs, she'd have no choice.

> > > For my part I've written quite a bit that touches on this fairly major plot point for the upcoming Saving the Future #10, including showing the Psychic Samurai encountering no less than seven escapees at different points. Unfortuately one of them has previously walked away from a nuclear explosion.

She also has the option of running or disappearing if things become too dangerous for her. Or that, and setting up the villain to be caught somehow.

Noted.

Oh btw, if you're posting something late Wednesday there's a chance I might not be able to read it till Thursday morning. I'm having an extensive eye exam on Wed afternoon that will leave my pupils dialated so I can't read.
