In this case, she knew Vendredi would probably not try to kill her as long as she stayed in civilian life and out of his business. But because she knows that world all too well, and she senses just how crazy Vendredi can be, she took out "insurance".

For all she knows, Hatman could shake down Vendredi again, or Akiko could do something, or possibly even Frankie, and next thing she knows, she's taken out in a drive-by shooting to send someone else a message. The "insurance" makes that an undesirable choice - not because Vendredi would be afraid, just because it's a lot of work having to deal with a tenacious alien assassin afterward. She doesn't plan on taking on Vendredi at all, really.
