> That's why she's [Vespiir] going to have to sneak into the palace somehow. She might not survive the trip though.

People have been complaining about how nice and happy everything is in this storyline.

> > If the Caphans adjudged Chiaki a leman then she's receive the respect due to her rank - less than a pleasure slave but higher than a tech-slave or mechant and much higher than a drudge, and proportional to the importance of her master and to her reputation.

> Since she has no master, that would lead to her being incredibly insulted.

That's Caphan culture for her. It's hard to say how people will react to the new class of slave-owning freewoman.

> > If they saw Chiaki as merely perceptive and clever, able to anticpate and with good instincts then that would enhance her value. If they suspected supernatural influence then there would be a problem.
> I have an upcoming post in that topic soon enough. Though generally, Chiaki doesn't leave much evidence either way. A primitive culture like Caph, however, is likely to jump to conclusions about supernatural nature either way. Then they'd have to beware, since Chiaki fights to protect herself (unlike most Caphan females) and she doesn't take well to being insulted by priests.

Priests don't take well to Nomead-possessed witches either.

All Caphan woman are expected to fight, though. Pleasure slaves are trained in using houri daggers, needle-thin poignards which can easily pass as decorative jewellry or hairpins and can pierce the chinks in a man's armour, or pop and eyeball or testacle. Their culture demands that they fight to resist being raided - carried off by another man - or to defend their house or tent. They're expected to resist kidnap for seven days. If by then their Master has not demanded ritual conmbat for their return then they are expected to accept the situation and become the property of their kidnapper.

Pleasure slaves also sometimes settle in-harem disputes with rival women with knife fights.

> > Of course, Earth girls are very "in" on Caph right now, but nobody has yet been able to buy one.
> Chiaki would emphatically insist that she's not for sale.

If the Lovetoads were in business right now there'd definitely be a missing persons scenario sometime soon. It's only a matter of time before some entrepreneur decides an interplanetary white slaving racket for Earth girls would be profitable.
