> > > Now the question is whether the outcast psychic will be heard before everyone is dead.
> > Vespiir's problem isn't just getting to speak, it's getting past all that prejudice so she'll be believed.

> The fortunate part is, if she gets her timing right she could stop the slave from serving the drinks and show everyone that she had those poisonous ingredients. But that's also the hard part, and she'd probably die trying to prove her point.

A few problems:

1. She's outcast so she's not allowed near decent people, and certainly not into the palace.

2. Her visions aren't sufficiently clear for her to actually know yet what the threat is.

3. If she demonstrates genuine ability then the High Priest of Raathi will expect her to be put to death.

4. The only two people she thinks can help her are a drudge and someone in even worse trouble than she is.

> I wonder what the Caphans might think of the Psychic Samurai? That may be fairly amusing, because she's a) female, b) has never been proven to be psychic, but c) always seems to know what's happening. But she does have the reputation that earned her the nickname. Of course Caphans in general might find her frightening, simply because they don't think a female "warrior" capable of killing men is possible.

Caphans have very competent female warriors to protect harems and act as bodyguards. They're raised and trained by the Leman's guild, and some function as adminstrators, enforcers, spies, and assassins. Prince Aarmus' agent Kriije was one such. If the Caphans adjudged Chiaki a leman then she's receive the respect due to her rank - less than a pleasure slave but higher than a tech-slave or mechant and much higher than a drudge, and proportional to the importance of her master and to her reputation.

If they saw Chiaki as merely perceptive and clever, able to anticpate and with good instincts then that would enhance her value. If they suspected supernatural influence then there would be a problem.

Of course, Earth girls are very "in" on Caph right now, but nobody has yet been able to buy one.
