Reply Subj: The Moderator Saga Chapter 30: Purviewing the Purveyors

> Three super criminals and an Equinite enchanted with the power of Ausgard were sitting in a bar trying to cobble together a roster capable of defeating the ultimate authority figure. The Moderator and his New Lair Legion were controlling the world now, and if the villains were to have any chance of surviving, they were going to have to take it from them.
>
> "Anvil Man," Velcro Vixen offered.
>
> Simon Maddicks snorted, "You're behind the times, Doll. He's been shipped to the Negativity Zone."
>
> "All right," she crossed an entry out of her little black book, "Savagetooth?"
>
> "He's around, but hasn't been the same since Moderator.... fixed him."
>
> Gamona agreed, "Savagetooth has lost his killer instinct. He seems quite content sunning himself and playing with string."
>
> "Well, I know Appendage Man was drawn and julienned by the Auto Censor...." Velcro Vixen tapped her perfect chin, "Anyone heard from the Machine Shop?"
>
> "Moderator had them refitted as amusement park rides, though I heard Harvester might still be intact," Maddicks answered after painfully taking a couple sips of his beer.
>
> "This is pointless!" Gamma Ray Gary slammed his hand on the table, causing every one's drinks to wobble, "So far none of these miscreants you wish to recruit are available! I can only help yon absent companions D'ur Acell and the CrazySugarFreakBoy! have had better luck gathering warriors!"
>
> Velcro Vixen took offense at the Horse-headed powerhouse's complaint, "We've got a few: Gromm, Atomic Bumpkin, Professor Manyarms, Twisted Sister and Fanboy...."
>
> "Great," Shrike mumbled, "those putzes will last about thirty seconds against the New Lair Legion."
>
> "Perhaps you should remain silent, considering you are without your combat suit, and thus useless," Gamona icily told the grounded Butcher Bird.
>
> Before Simon could counter the observation with one of his own, there was a bright flash of light from outside followed by a thundering boom.
>
> "By the Obsidian Spires of Crylos IV! That explosion came from miles above, and yet it still was potent enough to shake every structure in yon city," Gary charged outside for a better look.
>
> "Dude, what part of underground revolution do you not understand?!" Shrike protested.
>
> "In truth, there is very little of thine garrulous speech pattern I follow, Killer Shrike," the Equinite began swinging his enchanted baseball bat, "I must investigate this. Whatever power is behind yon explosion could be a great boon to our cause... or a terrible obstruction!"
>
> The three remaining conspirators watched as the alien took to the sky.
>
> "Great, another one off the reservation," Velcro Vixen shook her head, "What's it going to take to get this entire group together."
>
> "Well, you could always do what it is you do that makes you you," Shrike waggled his eyebrows, "I know it would keep me around."
>
> Vicki Vee smiled coyly, "I could do that, or I could just ask Gamona to sever your Achilles' tendons."
>
> Simon kept surprisingly quiet after that.
