>     Mr Epitome speed read the material. “Some of this could be accounted for by pickpocketing or fraudulent testimony,” he reasoned. “Although why anyone would want to claim their false teeth vanished from their mouth while they were riding an elevator at Mimble’s Department Store is something of a mystery. And that girl in Paris who claimed her underwear was stolen as she went up the Eiffel Tower…”
>
>     Ã¢â‚¬Å“Was this before Josh Clement vanished?” Yuki checked. “Although come to think of it, that could actually be his happy ending.”

A classic case of Occam's Razor.

>     Ã¢â‚¬Å“I am currently examining the places where previous potential incidents occurred,” noted the Manga Shoggoth. “Many of the lift cars have a similar taste to the one in the FBI building.” He paused a moment as he shifted his consciousness between half a dozen different biomasses he has spawned across the world. “Hmm. I also see that Gad Guard and Najica Blitz Tacitcs 2 have been released.”

Najica Blitz Tacitcs was a fine series ruined by excessive fanservice. If you want a laugh, just get Phil started on it...

A second series (hopefully with less fanservice) would be good - it had a lot of good ideas that were never really followed up on.

>     Ã¢â‚¬Å“Not good cop / bad cop,” Hatty answered. “Human cop / human cop. You answer our questions, of the next person to come asking will be the Manga Shoggoth.”
>
>     Cromlyn’s sneer took on a somewhat fixed appearance.

The use of Shoggoths in interview situations is much underrated.

>     Seventeen screaming nuns who had just been travelling down from their Rome hotel rooms to travel to Vatican Plaza rushed out of the elevator in hysterics, demanding to know where their habits had vanished to, then got themselves embedded in the gelid translucent biomass of the Manga Shoggoth.
>
>     Ã¢â‚¬Å“This is going to look so good in the Daily Trombone,” sighed Hallie.

Although it might look good in Chrono Crusade...

>     Ã¢â‚¬Å“Hey,” objected Mickey the Mobile, “I’m being hassled by a superhero here! A real live superhero, from the Lair Legion! You know, the Lair Legion who are your arch-enemies.” Yuki had got the metahuman middle-man cornered in a dark booth at the back of Grotto’s bar and she was pumping him for information.

Makes a change. Usually people are harrassed by mobiles.

>     Ã¢â‚¬Å“But you’ve been known to eat soap bubbles,” Ebony pointed out.
>
>     Ã¢â‚¬Å“They had a pleasing spheroid tensile balance,” the Shoggoth explained. “However, I will see what can be done regarding the problems with elevators.”
>
>     Ã¢â‚¬Å“Just the ones the Legion are investigating,” Ebony qualified quickly.
>
>     But the Shoggoth was gone.

Yes, that was a good quote. And so many things can go wrong now...

>     Ã¢â‚¬Å“No,” answered the Librarian. He pulled open the sliding door behind them and led the retreat from the brawl in Grotto’s. The mêlée had new become general, with old scores and sheer mayhem substituting for any kind of battle plan. In the centre of it all Anvil Man continued to sip his beer through a straw and watch the football.
>
>     Ã¢â‚¬Å“Well, I guess it’s time we followed up on Mickey’s lead,” admitted Yuki. “We can always come back later.”
>
>     Ã¢â‚¬Å“Or never,” suggested the Librarian, ducking as the Florist flew over his head and smashed into the back of the bar. The unfortunate supervillain knocked the wide-screen TV right off the wall.
>
>     Ã¢â‚¬Å“Hey!” roared Anvil Man, rising from his seat wrathfully. “I was watching that!”

The first time I read this I got the Clint Eastwood reference. When I reviewed it for comments I suddenly had flashbacks to the old Mended Drum fights involving a somewhat different Librarian.

> Continued tomorrow with special guest star Lewis Caroll

Oooh! This could be fun...
