> Every person has within them the capacity for good or evil, dark or light. The secret is not to eradicate one or the other...rather to balance them, until you are acutely aware of which is most appropriate for any situation. It is at that point you achieve enlightenment.
>
> I do not claim to be enlightened. I tend to stand by too often when evil prevails. I lose my temper and feel ashamed of it. I haven’t quite reached my potential as a spiritual person, or even as a human being. But I try, and I hope to never lose faith.
>
> It is when evil prevails that some find the strength to balance it. That takes strength because sometimes evil must be balanced with more evil. And as distasteful as that may be, it is necessary, and is the right thing to do.
>
> As Sir Isaac Newton once theorized, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. It is often not seen in the spiritual sense. In some ways, though, it’s more true there than in our physical world.

> The head of security at the Heck-Fire club frowned as he attended to the latest security emergency at the club. He didn’t believe it when he heard about it over the radio...but there it was.
>
> Standing at the front gate was a young, short, blonde woman. She was holding up a police badge that said she was a detective. The name tag on it said ‘Det. Cameron’.
>
> “I’ve been more than patient.†she said with a winning smile, but her voice betraying frustration. “Are you the owner?â€Â
>
> “Head of security,â€Â he practically boasted. He hefted the substantial rifle all the para-military security guards carried.
>
> “Well then, head doofus, what do you think about a legal search warrant?â€Â She waved a folded piece of paper under his nose.
>
> The security guard angrily snatched the paper from her and shredded it in front of her face, dropping the shreds on the ground. “I think playtime’s over, little girl. Go home before someone gets hurt.â€Â
>
> Vicky Cameron giggled and produced another folded piece of paper. “I brought copies! And lots of backup in case any of you suck-on-a-stick asswipes try anything. So eat me!â€Â
>
> He couldn’t help but cringe at her sudden foul mouthed dialogue. He raised the rifle and pointed it above her head. “I got plenty of backup too.â€Â
>
> A man in a suit suddenly emerged from a doorway just behind the head of security. He put his hand atop the rifle barrel and pushed it down. “There’s no need for that,â€Â he calmly said.
>
> The head of security lowered his weapon and looked down. “Sorry Mr. Slaughter.â€Â
>
> Simonides Slaughter waved all the security away, and they complied. He took the paper from Vicky. “A court order for search and seizure. Interesting.â€Â He looked up just as her partner, Jack Burns, and several other officers approached. “Of course we’ll cooperate fully with the law.â€Â And then more loudly, “Just be aware that we have expensive equipment and sensitive private information, and our lawyers protect them aggressively.â€Â
>
> Jack ignored that. He was used to lawyer threats when executing a search warrant. “We’re going to confiscate your computers, and your records.â€Â
>
> Slaughter’s teeth were clenched even as he replied, “We have nothing to hide here at the Heck-Fire Club.â€Â

> Once the police were busy searching, Simonides Slaughter stepped aside into the security office near the compound’s entrance. It had been evacuated by security and was currently occupied by Anna Salem. He closed the door softly so the police wouldn’t be able to hear.
>
> “This is an outrage,â€Â Anna Salem growled quietly. “I can make them all go away!â€Â
>
> “And then the Wilton and his Lair Legion will come down on us,â€Â he pointed out. “No, we’ll be patient. It’s the one thing none of them will count on.â€Â
>
> “You know who put them up to this don’t you?â€Â Anna looked up into Simonides’ eyes as he glanced at her. “It’s her. You know it too, don’t you?â€Â
>
> Slaughter frowned as he watched the police slowly leave, carrying lots of expensive computer equipment, and boxes of papers. “I know,â€Â he grumbled.
>
> “You should let me kill her,â€Â Anna growled. “Destroy her mind first and then kill her.â€Â
>
> “No.â€Â Simonides said that with a certain finality, but also a little defeatism. “She’s too well protected, and she always knows when we’re coming for her. If we go after her she’ll be expecting it...we’ll walk right into her trap.â€Â
>
> Anna sighed as she watched the security monitors. “Thank god they’re leaving,â€Â she said of the police. “I’m so angry right now, I don’t know how long I can control myself.â€Â

> Jack Burns stepped into the mobile crime lab command van and waited for Vicky Cameron to enter as well before shutting the door. Vicky sat first, and then Jack. He folded his arms and looked across at a dark haired Asian woman wearing black jeans and a dark green shirt.
>
> “Can I ask you one question?â€Â Jack asked her. “What’s the point of tipping off to such a dangerous organization? Even if we do get an indictment or two out of this...you won’t be safe.â€Â
>
> “It served my purpose.â€Â The woman said no more, and calmly leaned back.
>
> “I guess you know what you’re doing,â€Â Jack replied. “They must call you the Psychic Samurai for a reason.â€Â
