It seemed as though we needed some kind of mass-clearance both characterwise and plotwise to allow for some new growth.

By the way, if you get a chance, watch the 6-part BBC series Jekyll, by Empty Child/Girl in the Fireplace/Blink/Coupling writer Stephen Moffat. Excellent stuff.
