I'm sure Yuki knows that, which is why she set that self-imposed deadline.  If she doesn't make it (or gets disabled/killed trying) then obviously someone bigger is needed.  She suspects it's simpler than that.

It's much more complicated than that, which is why Yuki is involved.  She can appreciate the complexity of it all.  And Chiaki gets to show some of her best stuff.
