Silver Age Dimension Part 6

The Leader walked around the ‘L’ shaped table and regarded the two Visionarys with her silver pupil-less eyes.  Even though it was difficult to tell what she was focused on, and she was very professional sounding, she was also very emotionally expressive.

Her eyebrows furrowed as she looked at the new guests, and at Magweed and Griffin.  Her dynamic and intelligent artificial mind, the reason she had been created for the job of Lair Legion Leader, came to a rapid conclusion.

Ã¢â‚¬Å“You are all from another reality, are you not?”  she asked.

    Ã¢â‚¬Å“Bingo.”  Lara Night replied.

Visionary finally asked the question burning in his mind.  “How come nobody recognized me, and yet--”  He glanced at the Silver Age version of himself.

The intelligent Leader recognized the problem right away.  “In this universe, us Lair Legionnaires are never out of uniform.  You are wearing a tacky sweater rather than a tacky yellow coat.”

Ã¢â‚¬Å“Hey, this sweater cost me--”  Visionary started to protest.  But he never finished the sentence, as he realized he got it at a clearance sale from a clearance store.

He was ignored as the android completed her thought.  “Therefore it’s more difficult to recognize you.  At first I thought perhaps you were his twin brother.  But then--”

The Leader turned her attention to Magweed.  “--This wonderfully inquisitive child knew my real name.  My real name which is kept secret even from the Lair Legion.”

Ã¢â‚¬Å“That’s a weird coincidence.”  Lara commented.

Ã¢â‚¬Å“It is.”  The Leader confirmed.  She moved back to the head of the ‘L’ shaped table.  “We now have our new task, Lair Legion.  We must put together our heads--”  She looked directly at Dr. Albert B Harper.  “--And we must send our guests back home.”

Dr. Harper spoke up.  “I’m going to need some time to deduce exactly how the lighthouse they came in ended up on our island.  I’ll need access to it so I can do my research.”

Ã¢â‚¬Å“Sure, um...I guess.”  Visionary agreed.  “There’s some kind of clockwork thing in there that controls where it goes.  Well...obviously not controls, since I’m here, but it’s related somehow.”

Ã¢â‚¬Å“How exciting!”  Dr. Harper exclaimed.  “I’d like to see it right away!”

The Leader nodded.  “The rest of you, help Dr. Harper, or check around the island to see if anything is anchoring the lighthouse here.  I have a feeling something is.  Meeting adjourned!”

As The Leader started to leave the room, Magweed and Griffin stopped her.

Ã¢â‚¬Å“Can I help you with anything?”  the android asked.

Ã¢â‚¬Å“You’re so much like the Anna we know.”  Magweed said.  “She looks after us sometimes.”

Ã¢â‚¬Å“Except that Anna is more fun,”  Griffin pointed out.

Ã¢â‚¬Å“Griff!”  Magweed scolded him.  “Sorry, he’s...a boy.”

The Leader looked concerned.  “I’m sorry, I don’t usually look after children.  I find them intriguing, though.  Don’t worry, we’ll get you both home as soon as we can.”

Ã¢â‚¬Å“Not too soon, though.”  Lara Night interrupted.  “See, there’s this weird storm back in Visionary’s home universe, and it hasn’t quite gone away yet.  It’s what triggered this...derailment.”

Ã¢â‚¬Å“A storm.”  The Leader whispered, and her eyes widened.  “A storm!  Of course!  Dr. Harper, I need you for a moment!”

Ã¢â‚¬Å“Yes?”  Dr. Harper asked.  He was just about to leave.

Ã¢â‚¬Å“A Dimensional Storm.  We had one just a few days ago...it just hovered over the island, but didn’t really do much.  Dr. Harper was very eager to analyze it.”  The Leader pointed at Lara.  “She says there is one just like it where they came from.”

The Doctor rubbed his own chin.  “So perhaps this storm wanders from universe to universe, shifting anything in its path around.”

Ã¢â‚¬Å“I believe so, too.”  The Leader agreed.

Dr. Albert B Harper looked at Lara.  “We’re going to have to draw it back here somehow.”

Ã¢â‚¬Å“Oh great.”  Visionary complained.  “I barely survived it the last time.”
