Subj: Server connection issues (UPDATED!)

If you noticed, at times the board has been loading slowly or not at all. There's a very simple reason for this: A Distributed Denial of Service attack.

During the last few hours I've discovered that this attack is going on worldwide, and seems to be one of the largest Denial of Service attacks ever constructed. It looks to have begun on December 26th at midnight, I suppose in hopes to take down the internet the day after Christmas.

But that's not the strangest part. One major target of those attacks is this very site, the Parodyverse Message Board - apparently we've offended someone out there. The board has somehow, with only a few active readers, received over 1.5 million hits this week! This attack also affects Comicboards, Snarkbait, etc. because they're house on the same server.

The attacks also seem to be aimed at Time Warner/Roadrunner subscribers in the midwest. Roadrunner support is fighting a partial outage at this time because of it.

I've exchanged emails with Support on the subject. All we can do is watch, block any rogue IP's, and ride it out. I have more drastic tricks up my sleeve, if necessary, like moving the PVB to a non-attacked site, but that's a last resort.
