Worm Hunt pt. 3
Jack L. Bryson

Patrick got closer to the fountain. He stopped in front of Remy. “It was a huge worm,” Patrick said.

Ã¢â‚¬Å“Yes. Do you want to see another one?” Remy asked.

    Ã¢â‚¬Å“Yes. Where is it?”

Ã¢â‚¬Å“Turn your map over,” Remy said. Patrick turned his map over, and there was another one on the back. “It’ll cost two more pennies.”

Ã¢â‚¬Å“Ok,” Patrick said. He turned around and headed back into the woods. The back of the map had similar instructions. It told Patrick to walk until he reached the lake. Patrick walked to the lake. It didn’t take him long. He kicked at pinecones and tried whistling. He couldn’t whistle. It wasn’t easy.

Patrick waited at the edge of the shore. He found a pebble on the bank and picked it up. He looked across the lake. Then he tossed the pebble in the lake. Patrick took off his shoes. In a short time, the worm got three quarters into the mud. Patrick sat and watched until the worm disappeared. After the worm left, Patrick got up. He picked up his muddy shoes and left.

Patrick picked up his shoes. He put them back on his feet. Then he made his way back to the woods. As Patrick walked through the woods he stopped once or twice and picked up acorns. He threw the acorns and watched them ricochet off trees. Soon Patrick reached the fountain. Remy was still sitting on the edge whistling.

Ã¢â‚¬Å“Did you see the worm?” Remy asked,

Ã¢â‚¬Å“Yes.” Patrick stood there for a moment in the sun. He stretched and looked up at the sky. “Do you have any more maps?”

Ã¢â‚¬Å“Do you want to see a worm larger than the other two?”

Ã¢â‚¬Å“Ok,” Patrick said. Remy reached into his left pocket and took out another map. He handed it to Patrick. “I’m going to get the wish pennies right now.” Patrick said.

He left Remy by the fountain once more. He walked through the woods again. He reached his parent’s property. He found the hedges with the hole in them. He went through the hole and ran around to the backyard. Patrick climbed the back porch
