Reply Subj: Chad, Ronnie & Doctor Who! Posted: Tue Sep 04, 2012 at 09:05:16 pm EDT (Viewed 542 times)
Quote: Recently I've started to more allusions & references to the long running TV show "Doctor Who" into the Chad & Ronnie stories. Why? For a few reasons: 1. I'm a fan of the show & 2. I was thinking recently that Chad & Ronnie embody certain characters/aspects of the show. In both Doctor Who & Chad & Ronnie: it has always been a story about a Man, his Companion & the adventures that they have. I similarly love the show, having been brought up with it from infancy. I recall sitting with my father and watching Patrick Troughton's debut story, when I would have been around four. Now, who from the show "Doctor Who" would the character from Chad & Ronnie be: Quote: **WRITER'S NOTE: Most of the characters I'll be referring to are from when the show returned in 2005 & on. My knowledge of the series pre-2005 is a bit sketchy.**Quote: RONNIE: He has been dressing in clothes & styling his hair is a manner similar to Matt Smith's portrayal of The Doctor and that wasn't just by chance. I think Ronnie embodies much of the personality of Matt Smith's Doctor. There is a wide eyed innocence to both of them but there is also a dark, mysterious past to them. The main distinction I see is that the Doctor turns from whimisical and vague to suddenly menacingly dangerous in an instant. For eample, think of the moment in The Eleventh Hour where he appears at the end to the Atraxi and says: "Hello, I'm the Doctor. Basically... run." Quote: CHAD: He is parts of David Tennant's portrayal of The Doctor & parts of Arthur Darvil's Rory Williams/Pond. Chad is the Companion to Ronnie's Doctor. He is the one that will stand beside their friend. He won't take the spotlight for their own but in times that he needs to do something he will. Chad has a life of his own but that becomes secondary when he's with Ronnie. Chad does have a certain innocence to him but is much more mysterious then Ronnie. Chad is Ronnie's support system as in in the past when bad things happen to Chad there are noticeable changes in Ronnie & bad things tend to happen to those responsible to the ones who hurt Chad.I always thought C&R had more of a team-up duo feel than principal and companion, but otherwise I can see Chad as being swept along with Ronnie. Quote: LITTLE CAT: I'm not sure who the duo's hamster companion would be compared to. I thought about using K-9: Both are "pets" & both are companions. But K-9 has done a lot more then Little Cat has ever done so I didn't think that comparison would be correct. One couldn't compare Little Cat to the TARDIS either, since the Doctor's time machine also facilitates - or causes - many of his exploits. Quote: JANE: She is similar to Catherine Tate's Donna Noble in many ways. Jane is a friend/companion to Chad & Ronnie but doesn't just go along willingly with what is going on. She has strong opinions & will voice them. Early on there was an attraction between Jane & Ronnie, they dated for a short while. They broke up & she seemingly wanted nothing to do with Chad or Ronnie. But as it stands right now, Jane does not mind be associated with them most of the time. There are still feelings & they care for each other. Ronnie needs Jane to be his anchor in the "real world" & Jane needs Ronnie to help her avoid the "real world".She is also often quite caustic about her friends and adversaries alike. Quote: CATHERINE: She was the first of the Chad & Ronnie related characters to have any Doctor Who references in her stories. This has now crossed over to the main characters. Catherine is elements of Billie Piper's Rose Tyler & Karen Gillian's Amy Pond. She enjoys the adventures that she goes on with Chad & Ronnie but doesn't just follow along to follow along. She's there because she wants to be! Catherine is also known to initiate a few adventures of her own. Catherine has a bit of a Love/Hate relationship with Ronnie, sort of like the relationship Alex Kingston's River Song has with Matt Smith's Doctor.Catherine is something of the new breed of cool convention-going fangirl. She has some of the Doctor's own eccentricity. I don't know if you've seen The Asylum of the Daleks yet, but the main guest star in that episode would probably be who I'd look to for a Catherine analogue. Quote: MISTER SPOOKY: I'm not really sure who compare the most mysterious of the Chad & Ronnie cast to. A man who tells nothing about his past or his intentions, who will appear & disappear of you nowhere. A man who may or may not have mystical/super powers. You'd have to dip back to the old series and look at the Key for Time Quest set by the Black and White Guardians of Time. The Black Guardian returned thereafter as a recurring villain. Quote: CLIVE HUDGENS: One of the newer characters in the Chad Ronnie story doesn't really have a person I'd compare him too. I'd say he's more like an Emissary of the Galifreyans, the race that The Doctor belongs to. The Galifreyans in the Chad & Ronnie stories would who Clive works for: Ronnie's Family.Too early to say. Quote: ------------Quote: If there any other Doctor Who fans that would like to say who they think the character from Chad & Ronnie are and why. I'd love to read it I think so far you've done a good job of being inspired by your sources without being derivative.
