Subj: The good thing about writing for the future is that the stories can be ignored if they don't fit. Or mined for ideas. Quote: Okay, so maybe I'm a bit biased, but this is easily one of my all-time favorite stories already. Such an unexpected treat! I almost feel guilty for subjecting the board to random nonsense when this was nearly ready to be posted. It's been so long since I posted anything substatial that I wanted to make a decent job of it. I do feel quite guilty at my low participation, but I now have a 2-hour commute via London twice a day, and I am in no state to write in the evenings. Quote: Poor Magweed... Vizh manages to trip up her love life even when he never appears in the story. I suppose everyone has to go through some heartbreak growing up, but this was rough... The deck is awfully stacked against her when it comes to not scaring off a nice, normal guy. Still, if he's not yet willing to step up and take a chance for her, then he's not good enough for my little girl. In all fairness, it's not Vizh's fault. I made sure that Bastet stressed both sides of the coin, but one thing I forgot in the rush to get things finished was to have Dancer doing the same thing. Quote: I loved all of the cameos, from the mouse guard through to her mothers and aunts. The original version had him staying the night, but being kept awake, convinced that there was always at lesst one mouse, paws on the cage bars, staring at him with its unblinking eyes. I scrubbed that as it was a little too creepy for that stage in the story. On the other hand, the two phone calls with her mothers almost wrote themselves. The amusing part, of course, is that in the first call, he is obviously getting all the missing parts wrong. Quote: And don't let Lisa or her cat hear this, but I was even choked up a bit at the thought that the vengeful furball was reaching his end.I am not a great cat fan myself - nor am I particularly in to pets. However I thought the cat scene(s) were rather bittersweet, and a wonderful way to display Magweed's character. Quote: Including a Sarah-themed section was just too perfect as well, although I'm not sure she would approve of how things turned out.The Sarah theme was actually a last minute decision. I needed a way to swap from the first person perspective so I could have a discusseion between Sarah and Miiri, and I had to deal with a section that had to be heavily dialogue to work. The idea of doing it as a Dancer insert occured to me just before I wrote it. And the moment I thought of it, it just seemed so right. I think that being Dancer involves seeing all the probabilities. She knows that she can't force love, but I think she would be prepared to give a good guy (or girl) a second chance, especially where the story just happened to have another girl who has gone home after a traumatic experience. It is interesting to compare this scene with the way the Hooded Hood would have acted. He would have had multiple contingencies set up (naturally) to make sure he could force them together. Quote: You have a real talent for these future tales. This really was such a fun story to read, and it quickly reminded me why I've enjoyed this board for so long. It's a little harder as I am a little more disconnected from the board these days. On the other hand, that makes the future stories more attractive, since we can always ignore them if the future doesn't work that way. | |||||||
