Subj: I had assumed that Sally Field as Aunt May would meet with your approval.

... This bit of casting news is actually a point in its favor:

Guess who's playing Uncle Ben and Aunt May?

Hint:

I'd be more optimistic about the presence of Martin Sheen if I didn't still have vivid memories of him playing Jason Wynn in Spawn.

BUT NOW I CAN SPANK IT TO SALLY FIELD AS AN OLD LADY WITHOUT RELYING EXCLUSIVELY ON YOUTUBE CLIPS OF HER BONIVA COMMERCIALS ANYMORE. 8D

...and that was as far as I followed that train of thought, for my own peace of mind.

I have no objections to the actors (although a non-frail old biddy aunt May doesn't fit with any version I tend to think of, having never read Ultimate Spider-Man.) I just really have little to no interest in going back to Spidey's origin again. I never need to see more than 3 minutes spent on Spider-man's, Batman's or Superman's origins ever again.

And if rumors are true and the guy cast as the villain is actually playing the Lizard, then that's something of a slap at Raimi and Dylan Baker considering that they set up Doc Conners in all of those movies and yet (reportedly) it was Sony executives that kept shooting down ideas for the Lizard to finally appear. Word is they felt he was too inhuman, and wanted villains with a "face".

I'm open to seeing what they do with the next Spidey movie, because I certainly don't think the previous films captured all there is to the character (especially not his sense of humor), but I'm also not eagerly awaiting this new take either.
