I recall that; in fact it came up in my reread of the Epitome material. I'm not sure how much more to work in (if any) but I'll keep it in mind. Mostly that scene used those characters because they filled the neccessary niches without needing to create new ones and to keep them somewhere in the readership's conciousness.
