Quote: Quote: The Carnifax is a big game hunter writ large. He likes tracking things and laying traps with appropriate bait. It's part of the fun.Quote: Liu Xi can't really stop Vinnie for falling into traps, but she can try.font color="lightslategrey" face="Lucida Sans Unicode">First one must know the trap is there and that it is a trap. Quote: Quote: His contracts are his storng point. His comprehension of things like love and care are his blindspots.Quote: She most likely wouldn't sign the contract unless she knew the loophole up front to exploit it later.font color="lightslategrey" face="Lucida Sans Unicode">That's the narrative problem, though. Villains like Grimpenghast can reasonably be expected to be cleverer at diabolicic contracts than even the brightest lay person. Liu Xi would be better in a situation like that to demand a different set of rules in a different game altogether. Quote: Vinnie may have to learn to also, unless he's willing to change the dynamic quite a bit. And Liu Xi is no Cleone - she's far more active and involved. And would object to being called a sidekick.font color="lightslategrey" face="Lucida Sans Unicode">Technically, Cleone was Xander's familiar - she shared a single lifeforce with him and had intense mental links. Quote: Quote: Quote: Or the other scenario is Liu Xi may have to purposely harm the friendship because Vinnie insists on allowing himself to be harmed to protect her or the Lair Legion.Quote: Quote: Vinnie does tend to put others first.Quote: That could turn out to be a mess someday, since he thinks he's protecting his friends, and Liu Xi is insistent on protecting him.font color="lightslategrey" face="Lucida Sans Unicode">That's how friends work. Quote: Quote: I do intend to do a "Vinnie goes to his family reunion" story one day.Quote: But first you need him to have motivation to actually go, since he pretty much disowned them all.font color="lightslategrey" face="Lucida Sans Unicode">They're likely to be far more interested in undisowning him - owning him - again now he's got the sorcerer supreme job. He's made good. | |||||||
