I wasn't going to betray my PV roots! Practically anything I know about writing stories is somehow related to something I learned here over the years. I've always had a soft spot for the, as you call them, nearly-lame characters in comics. I've written my fair share of them here & many of my reading choices have had that theme to it. The character is based around a couple of themes that I find interesting: Legacy Characters, The Nearly-Lame & Humor (both intentional & unintentional). I think all of those things come through in that short story piece.
