After all, any good story about magic should always acknowledge that even magic, like almost anything else, still has rules that must be followed, or at least worked around, or else the plot will quickly devolve into a series of deus ex machinas. Vinnie's stories are no exception, since he's an expert in magic who nonetheless has to deal with the day-to-day hassles of reality, from paying rent and running his own business to finding and accomodating clients and even overcoming social awkwardness on dates. By contrast, a guy like Dream must seem to Vinnie like he's dancing between raindrops without getting wet, since Dream's crises are far more existential in nature, even though Vinnie's crises are spiritual in the most literal sense. | |||||||
