If the guards want her gone, they have something in common with her - she doesn't want to stay there for a long time, either.  If they know she's only temporary until things straighten out, they might cooperate for a while just to get her to leave, kind of like how an efficiency expert showing up at an office prompts everyone to work hard for a while.
