Reply Subj: You know, maybe it's time to consider making a new fashion statement...

> This was fun, which is highly usual for lengthy government functions. I especially liked the quick and easy route to settling questions of honor through appointing Gaz as the Emir's champion. Things would have been more entertaining had the challengers not backed down... But then again, I suppose there's enough damage done to the palace already.

The challenge by combat seemed such an obvious move that Kiivan and Ohanna were certain to have anticipated it. Gaz was a logical counter to those attempts. Later on we'll see some rather less forseen approaches to Caphan succession.

> Kip had a nice scene of doing the right thing, which was set off well by an appearance of Garrick (and the new diplomat weasel he brought with him.) I think I may still be under a restraining order from that last time I attacked Herb, but that's probably not enforceable on this side of the galaxy. And apparently, I may have diplomatic immunity now anyway...

That's a frightening thought.

Of course, to be a legal ambassador one has to be accredited by ones' homeland as well as accepted by another nation.

> Clever line by Lindy to get Hamboy out of the mess he had made. Sometimes the simple excuses are the most elegant...

I'm not sure HB agrees with your assessment.

> Again, a fun chapter! I look forward to seeing the implications that come out of it...

We've not finished the Caphan court drama yet. Next time we cut away to see what else is going on as the plot heats up a bit, but our final section in this chapter takes up right back to the Caliphate Court and Kiivan's first tough calls - and maybe his last.

As for the Vizh implications, wasn't that on your to-do list back when we discussed this?
