Chiaki probably knows Mr. Li, but she also has her own apartment and probably knows where to find herbal remedies on her won.  She may not seem it sometimes but she's incredibly resourceful and self-reliant.  Or at least she tries to be.
The reason she's hurting (but covering it up) is because she's been properly treated with a poison antidote, bandages, and antibiotics, but she refused pain killers because they would cloud her mind.  The herbal remedies she's using are to curb the pain without narcotic effects.
