Actually you're getting hit with 3 bugs at once. The server has some kind of problem that's causing the connection errors. When you return to the form Internet Explorer cuts off all the data and tries to submit it empty (it's the only browser which has that bug!) which causes the posting script to display a 404 error. And then when you hit back, Internet Explorer shows you an old cached page (not the only browser which does that).
